Family Mediation

"...a very steady hand providing support and advice"

- Client quote

Mediation is a way of resolving issues that arise on separation. It can avoid the need to go to court. You and your partner attend a meeting with a mediator, which is confidential and you are encouraged to identify the issues that you wish to resolve. The mediator is impartial and will assist you to reach your own solutions by exploring different options with you. If you reach an agreement the mediator will draw up a memorandum and recommend that you discuss it with your solicitor.

If you both approve the memorandum after taking advice, your solicitor can take the necessary steps to make it a binding agreement. In some cases this can be achieved by the preparation of a written agreement which you will both sign. In others your solicitor will submit the memorandum to the court where it will be considered by the Judge and recorded as an order.

There are many advantages to mediation. It is a more dynamic process where there is constructive discussion between you facilitated by the mediator. This can produce significant savings in cost and time.

At TLT we are very experienced in assisting our clients through the mediation process.
