TLT "compares very favourably to City firms" according to independent UK law firm guide

21 September 2011
TLT has been described as "comparing very favourably to City firms" and having "strength in depth across all disciplines" in the Legal 500 UK 2011 guide, an independent guide to the UK legal market which was published earlier this week.

The guide, which is compiled using unattributed feedback from clients and peer firms, recognises TLT as a "regional heavyweight" and rates the firm for providing "commercial and cost-effective" advice to a broad client base of regional, national and international businesses including FTSE-listed companies. TLT's lawyers are praised for their "in-depth technical expertise", "clear communication" and "insightful, pragmatic advice" at a "sensible price". The guide also reports that the firm ‘hits tight deadlines’ and ‘responds quickly to unforeseen issues’.

TLT has received top tier rankings for its expertise in the guide's categories of corporate and commercial, debt recovery (covering the firm's repossessions, mortgage enforcement, lender sales, banking and financial services litigation, and professional negligence work), employment, information technology, insolvency and corporate recovery, intellectual property, licensing and pensions. The firm has also improved its ranking in the guide's category of power (renewables); is newly ranked for brand management work; and is also ranked in the guide's new category of franchising. Overall, TLT is recommended across 36 different practice areas.

Eight partners at the firm have been recognised by the guide as experts in their respective fields. Mathew Phipps, who is newly recognised this year for his licensing expertise, joins Sasha Butterworth (pensions), Peter Carney (insolvency and corporate recovery), Julia Lucas (leisure), Philip May (corporate recovery and insolvency), David Pester (Managing Partner and corporate finance), and John Wood (corporate finance) whom are all recognised as 'Leading Individuals', along with Bill Hull who is this year recognised as an expert for both EU & competition and franchising work.

TLT's Managing Partner David Pester says, "We've had a strong year and our focus on key industry sectors, specialist service lines and excellent service delivery is enabling us to compete successfully with much larger London and national law firms. Thank you to our clients who provided feedback to the guide and in so doing helped us achieve these excellent results."

Legal 500 UK is an annual guide to the UK legal sector and used by buyers of legal services. It ranks law firms and lawyers across legal specialisms and geographic regions, identifying the most highly respected legal professionals in their areas of expertise. Legal 500 is compiled by independent researchers who conduct interviews with lawyers, clients and other professionals to help identify the strengths and capabilities of UK law firms across the multitude of legal practice specialisms.
