TLT's Senior Partner elected to The Law Society Council

18 July 2011

TLT's Senior Partner, Robert Bourns, has been elected to the Council of The Law Society.  Robert will be one of five representatives for the City of London constituency. Other representatives come from Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, Charles Russell and Stephenson Harwood.

The Council is the governing body of the Law Society and consists of 100 seats. Amongst other responsibilities, the role of Council members is to contribute to the Law Society by helping it achieve its objectives through good governance and high quality decision making. Council members are also held responsible for representing the views and interests of other members of The Law Society.

Robert has held the role of senior Partner at TLT for nine years and has recently been reappointed for a further term by the firm's partnership. Prior to this Robert was Managing Partner of TLT for six years. Robert is a past Secretary and President of Bristol Law Society and Secretary of the Association of South Western Law Societies.

Robert is actively engaged in many of the key issues affecting the legal sector including the impact of the Legal Services Act, alternative business structures and external investment.

Commenting on his appointment Robert Bourns says, "I'm delighted to have been appointed to represent Law Society members in the Square Mile. The legal sector currently faces a range of unprecedented challenges and opportunities and I look forward to working with my fellow Council members and the legal profession more widely to help address these issues and to promote the profession."
