Lifetime achievement award for TLT partner
26 October 2009
TLT partner Tim Pyper has received a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the legal profession, both nationally and within the Bristol region.
Tim has had an extraordinarily accomplished career spanning over 30 years. A past President of Bristol Law Society, A Notary Public and a well-recognised speaker, Tim has played a key role in the legal market, as well as in the wider business community and in the charitable sector.
Formerly Managing Partner and then Senior Partner at Lawrence Tucketts, Tim played a pivotal role in the firm's merger with Trumps in 2000 to create TLT, at which time he became Senior Partner of TLT. Tim has always been at the forefront of what is going on in the legal market and was instrumental in the firm's drive towards quality accreditation, making TLT one of the first law firms in the country accredited to ISO 9001.
Tim is also a member, and formerly secretary and treasurer, of the Association of South Western Law Societies, the representative body for all law societies in the West of England.
Tim has played a key role in the wider Bristol business community both as a member of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiative Business Forum; as a member of the President's Group of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiative; and as a member of the CBI's South West Regional Council, which are designed to promote business activity within the region.
Tim is well-known in the charity sector, having drafted the constitutional documents of some of Bristol's oldest charities. Tim is a former president of The Dolphin Society; an advisor to Picture This and he is on the regional committee, and former Chairman, of Fairbridge West (part of registered charity Fairbridge). In addition to providing legal advice Tim has assisted these charities with their fundraising efforts, for example by running the Paris marathon.
Tim is also a long-term member of the solicitors assistance scheme, which is designed to assist solicitors and their families and employees with personal or professional problems such as stress, disciplinary matters, or financial worries. As a volunteer, Tim provides free help and advice to other solicitors on financial and partnership issues.
Tim's prime focus now, as a partner at TLT, is corporate work, dealing with sales and purchases of companies and businesses, and the structure of businesses. Tim also advises charities on structural and governance issues and he has substantial experience of handling pensions matters and is an experienced pension scheme trustee.
Commenting on the award Mike Lind of Bristol Law Society says, "Tim is a great ambassador for the legal profession and he has made a real contribution to the profession in Bristol, helping to shape wider perceptions of Bristol as one of the UK's major legal centres."
The award was made by Bristol Law Society on Friday 16th October.
