TLT boosts tax and trusts practice with key partner hire

18 November 2008

TLT has strengthened its tax planning and trusts expertise with the appointment of specialist Patrick Wooddisse from Burges Salmon. Patrick joins TLT this month as a partner and head of the firm's Tax and Estate Planning team.

TLT has one of the South West's leading personal tax, trusts and probate practices and is recommended by independent guide to the legal market, Legal 500. The Tax and Estate Planning team is part of TLT's Private Business group, which now includes 26 lawyers including eight partners, and acts exclusively for high net worth individuals in the areas of tax and estate planning, family law, dispute resolution and residential property.

Patrick is an experienced private client tax and estate planning lawyer with broad expertise across the full range of UK and international tax planning and trust advice, with a particular focus on cross-jurisdictional work. His experience includes advising international trust companies on succession planning, trust disputes, and precedents and standard documentation and advising high net worth UK and non-UK residents on property, trust, tax, estate and succession planning. Patrick has particular niche expertise advising on UK/US cross-border issues.

Patrick joins TLT from Burges Salmon where he was associate. Prior to this, Patrick served for five years as an army officer with the Royal Gurkha Rifles and then completed his training contract with niche firm Amhurst Brown Colombotti in London.

David Woodward, Head of TLT's Private Business Group, says, "Patrick's breadth and depth of experience and his considerable drive and ambition will be a huge asset to the team and will further enhance TLT's reputation as one of the South West's leading personal tax, trusts and probate practices."

TLT's Tax and Estate Planning team has niche specialism in cross border probates and cases involving complex jurisdictional issues, as well high value domestic estates. The team has recently advised clients with assets in Spain, Italy, France, Norway, Bulgaria, Greece, USA, Japan, Kuwait, Jordan, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, and has developed a specialism in assisting Kuwaiti clients with the administration of UK estates. The team also advises on Independent Living Trusts and advises trustees in the administration of private family trusts.

The team works closely with TLT's highly respected and award-winning corporate finance practice, advising corporate clients on sales and de-mergers, the impact of shareholders' agreements on estate planning issues, and advising on trustees' duties where shares are held in trust.
